5-Day Trek through Authentic Villages & Minority Group Exploration

Trip Overview:

Explore the Nam Ha National Protected Area (ASEAN Heritage Site) on a trek that immerses you in jungle survival skills, including cooking with bamboo, creating a banana leaf camp, foraging for food, and learning native hunting techniques. Engage in Community-Based Tourism activities like rice husking, Khmu traditional Baci ceremonies, blacksmithing, and bamboo basket making. Experience the unique cultures of the Khmu and Lantén ethnic groups, hike through rainforests, and enjoy stunning landscapes.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy

    Start with a briefing and a visit to the morning market. Explore Khmu villages, learning about their culture. Hike from Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy, foraging for lunch. Reach the Lahu village by 3:00 PM, enjoy the viewpoint before sunset, and explore Lahu traditions.

  • Day 2: Ban Nam Khouy to Jungle Camp 1

    Trek along the Nam Ha NPA valley, foraging and learning about herbs and wildlife. Reach 1000 meters above sea level, moving into an ancient forest. Arrive at the campsite by 3-4:00 PM, set up a traditional hunter camp, and prepare a Khmu jungle meal.

  • Day 3: Jungle Camp 1 to Jungle Camp 2

    Trek across hills and ridgelines, through shady forests. Arrive at a stream-side campsite before sunset, swim, and prepare a jungle meal using local plants.

  • Day 4: Jungle Camp 2 to Ban Nalan

    After breakfast, choose between:

    • Option 1 (Approx. 3-4 hours): Cross the Nam Ha River, lunch in Nalan village, and learn about Khmu culture.
    • Option 2 (Approx. 5-6 hours): Hike through the Nam Ha NPA valley, have lunch, and continue to Ban Nalan. Check into a homestay, explore the village, and enjoy a local dinner and activities.
  • Day 5: Ban Nalan to Chalernsouk or Nahome to Namlue

    After breakfast, choose between:

    • Option 1 (Approx. 4-5 hours): Hike uphill through the forest, have lunch, and continue to Chalernsouk village for a tuk-tuk ride back to Luang Namtha.
    • Option 2 (Approx. 5-6 hours): Follow the Nam Ha River to Nahome village, learn about Lanten traditions, and hike a challenging trail to Namlue village. Return to Luang Namtha by tuk-tuk in the afternoon.
